Note: At McGovern Hurley, we balance work-life integration with a commitment to excellence. We operate in a hybrid work environment requiring two in-office days per week at our North York office, with Thursdays designated as the Anchor Day for the Tax Advisory Group (TAG). 

About You 

You are a key contributor within McGovern Hurley’s growing and dynamic Tax Advisory Group, aiding complex U.S. tax engagements, technical research, and cross-border tax planning initiatives. With 3+ years of progressive U.S. public accounting experience, you confidently prepare and review federal and state tax returns across multiple entity types, applying tax legislation to real client scenarios.

Your Key Responsibilities 

  • Prepare and review U.S. federal and state tax returns for corporations, individuals, partnerships, and estates, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations. 
  • Research U.S. cross-border tax matters and translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights that enable client compliance and strategic decision-making. 
  • Contribute to tax compliance, planning, and strategy development by analyzing client tax matters, legislation, provisions, and case law. 
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret financial and tax information to facilitate accurate reporting, planning, and advisory work. 
  • Collaborate with engagement teams on planning activities, timelines, risk assessments, and successful delivery of client engagements. 
  • Identify issues, discrepancies, and potential risks in tax filings and supporting documentation, and take initiative to investigate and resolve them. 
  • Liaise with the IRS and state tax authorities as needed to assist with client compliance and respond to inquiries. 
  • Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities that strengthen client relationships and drive continued firm growth. 

What You Bring 

  • 2-3 years of progressive, hands-on U.S. tax experience with a strong focus in U.S. corporate tax area 
  • Completion of or near completion of CPA (US), CPA (Canada), or U.S. Enrolled Agent (EA) designation. 
  • Driven, growth-oriented professional with a strong enthusiasm for the accounting profession and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. 
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with a strong aptitude for quickly learning and adapting to new technologies. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively. 
  • Client-focused mindset, with a customer or client service experience and a commitment to delivering a high standard of service. 
  • Demonstrated alignment with McGovern Hurley’s values of collaboration, respect, accountability, integrity, and quality. 
  • Availability to work onsite two days per week at McGovern Hurley’s North York office, with Thursday designated as the in-office Anchor Day for the tax practice.
