About You 

You will be a key contributor within McGovern Hurley’s growing and dynamic Tax Advisory Group—supporting complex client engagements, conducting technical tax research, and contributing to strategic tax planning initiatives. With 3+ years of progressive public accounting experience, you bring a strong foundation in tax compliance and planning and are confident preparing and reviewing complex tax returns in accordance with the Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation.

Your Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct in-depth tax research across a range of complex issues, delivering clear, well-supported conclusions that inform client strategy and compliance outcomes.  
  • Contribute to the development of advanced tax planning strategies, including the preparation and review of complex tax returns.  
  • Actively support tax compliance, planning, and strategy development by analyzing client tax issues, legislation, provisions, and relevant jurisprudence.  
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret financial and tax data to support accurate reporting, strategic planning, and advisory services.  
  • Develop and apply strong knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act and related legislation to ensure compliant and strategically sound tax solutions.  
  • Collaborate closely with Engagement Teams and Firm Leadership to support planning, timelines, risk assessments, and execution of client engagements.  
  • Identify issues, discrepancies, and technical risks, taking ownership to investigate, resolve, and escalate where appropriate.  
  • Prepare and support the filing of tax elections and related technical documentation with accuracy and attention to detail.  
  • Contribute to business development efforts by identifying opportunities to strengthen client relationships and support firm growth.  
  • Continuously enhance team performance and the client experience by identifying process improvements and sharing technical insights. 
 
What You Bring 

  • 3+ years of progressive, hands-on public accounting experience as a Senior Accountant or Senior Associate, Tax. 
  • CPA designation, with completion or enrollment in the CPA In-Depth Tax Course or MTax  Program.  
  • Technically proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with a strong aptitude for quickly learning and adapting to new technologies. 
  • Driven, growth-oriented professional with an enthusiasm for the accounting profession, with a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively. 
  • Client-focused mindset, with a customer or client service experience and a commitment to delivering a high standard of service. 
  • Demonstrated alignment with McGovern Hurley’s values of collaboration, respect, accountability, integrity, and quality. 
  • Availability to work onsite two days per week at McGovern Hurley’s North York office, with Thursday designated as the mandatory in-office Anchor Day for the tax practice.
