WHAT YOU’LL DO:

As a Medical Escort, you will provide clinical oversight, patient care, and medical risk management for individuals undergoing Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA)-authorized removals and transfers during commercial air, charter, and ground transportation. Escort personnel ensure patient safety, stability, and dignity throughout the transport process while working alongside CBSA officers, who retain full responsibility for custody, security, and immigration authorities.

Escorts operate with lightweight medical equipment, focus on monitoring and clinical judgement, and function on a task-based, on-call model, with assignments that may vary in duration and location.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Escort & Patient Care

  • Provide continuous medical supervision to assigned individuals throughout the full escort mission, including:
    • Pre-departure preparation at detention or departure locations
    • Airport procedures and commercial flight travel
    • Ground movements and handover at the destination
  • Conduct ongoing patient monitoring, clinical assessments, and symptom management within the scope of practice
  • Respond to medical issues or deteriorations in collaboration with airline providers, ground EMS, or receiving facilities as required
  • Maintain a patient-focused, non-custodial role at all times

CBSA & Interagency Collaboration

  • Work in close coordination with CBSA officers, who retain:
    • Security control
    • Legal and immigration authority
    • Escort restraints and custody decisions
  • Follow CBSA task authorizations, itineraries, and escort protocols
  • Participate in structured handovers at transfer points and final destinations

Operational & Documentation Requirements

  • Deploy on short-notice assignments issued through CBSA Task Authorizations
  • Carry and manage a standardized single medical escort kit (basic monitoring, medications, consumables)
  • Complete required clinical documentation, incident reports, and post-mission summaries
  • Comply with fatigue management, duty time awareness, and travel policies

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Registered Nurse licensed in Canada
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the last 7 years as an RN
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS Certification (Strongly Preferred)

BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE…

  • Experience in medical transport or escort roles
  • Experience in emergency, correctional health, detention health, or remote/isolated practice
  • Experience in aviation or flight-related healthcare roles (non-cockpit)
  • Strong situational awareness, calm demeanor, and ability to operate independently in public travel environments
  • Experience working within strict role separation between clinical care and security functions

PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS:

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with CBSA, contracting partners, and privacy requirements
  • Demonstrated professionalism, neutrality, and respect when working with individuals under escort
  • Ability to adhere strictly to the scope of practice and an escort-only mandate
  • Professional representation of both the contractor and CBSA in public and international settings

SECURITY & ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Eligible for and able to successfully obtain:
  • CBSA security clearance
  • Digital fingerprinting
  • Government background screening
  • Valid passport with ability to travel internationally
