Note: At McGovern Hurley, we balance work-life integration with a commitment to excellence. We operate in a hybrid work environment that requires employees to work from our North York office two days per week, with Thursday designated as the in-office Anchor Day for the Tax Advisory Group (TAG). 
About You 

You will be a key member of McGovern Hurley’s Tax Advisory Group—leading client engagements, preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, and delivering strategic tax advisory services. You will also guide work to ensure accuracy and high-quality outcomes. With 4 years of progressive public accounting experience, you bring strong exposure to tax compliance and planning, including transactions, reorganizations, and indirect tax matters.  

As a CPA designation holder, with completion or near completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course Program or MTax program, you bring strong technical depth and a trusted advisor mindset. You thrive in collaborative, high-accountability environments, take pride in mentoring others, and contribute to the continued growth of the Tax Advisory Group. 

Your Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead complex, client tax engagements across a diverse client portfolio, setting the standard for excellence. 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor within the Tax Advisory Group, delivering timely, high-quality strategic tax planning and compliance solutions. 
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and review of complex tax returns and engagements with a focus on quality and standard. 
  • Drive technical excellence with thorough tax research and clear, confident presentation of findings. 
  • Collaborate closely with Firm Partners on advanced tax planning initiatives and broader client strategy. 
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and performance guidance to emerging tax professionals, driving performance excellence and long-term career growth. 
  • Contribute to firm growth with relationship building and active participation in business development initiatives. 
  • Identify and implement opportunities to enhance team performance, strengthen processes, and elevate the overall client experience.
 
What You Bring 

  • At least 4 years of progressive, hands-on public accounting experience, with strong exposure to complex tax engagements and tax memorandums considered an asset.  
  • CPA designation, with completion (or near completion) of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course or MTax program. 
  • Trusted advisor mindset, with the ability to understand clients’ businesses and provide strategic tax guidance 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities and deadlines with confidence. 
  • Driven, growth-oriented professional eager to continue building expertise and making meaningful impact. 
  • Strategic, analytical thinker and strong communicator who translates complex tax matters into clear, practical insights—both verbally and in writing. 
  • Demonstrated alignment with McGovern Hurley’s values of collaboration, respect, accountability, integrity, and quality. 
  • Availability to work onsite two days per week at McGovern Hurley’s North York office, with Thursday designated as the mandatory in-office Anchor Day for the tax practice.
